Tourists hit charges on hotel internet

Up to 80% of tourists get a nasty surprise when they realise that items they thought had already been paid for in the cost of their holiday are in fact additional extras, according to the poll by the Post Office.

Some of these rogue items and services include non-alcoholic drinks bought from their hotel, internet access and items from the mini bar in their room.

Data roaming lands Hove man with £600 phone bill

A holidaymaker was sent a £600 phone bill despite not using his mobile while away.

Nick Roe, 32, from Hove, said he was shocked at the letter from Orange which was more than 20 times higher than his usual £28 per month bill.

The sales and marketing employee said: “I went to Turkey for one week and hardly used my smart phone so I couldn’t believe it when the bill was £600.

“When I called my service provider Orange they said it would have been doing something called data roaming, which means even if you don’t go on the internet it is searching for things behind the scenes which is costing you money.
